New Delhi
Full Day Delhi — Old City & New Capital
Breakfast at the hotel, then your private English-speaking guide meets you for a full day of Delhi sightseeing. Begin in Old Delhi: the Red Fort (Lal Qila) — Shah Jahan's great red sandstone palace — then walk to Jama Masjid, India's largest mosque, with an optional climb of the minaret for panoramic views. Board a cycle rickshaw through the insane, glorious sensory experience of Chandni Chowk — India's greatest bazaar. Visit Raj Ghat, the serene memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. After lunch, New Delhi: Humayun's Tomb (the architectural prototype of the Taj Mahal), Qutub Minar (world's tallest brick minaret, built in 1193), and a drive past India Gate and the presidential palace. Evening at leisure — your guide can recommend excellent dinner options from fine dining to street food.

Delhi → Agra
Lodi Garden Morning → Drive to Agra → Taj Mahal at Sunset
Early breakfast, then a morning walk through Lodi Garden — 90 acres of Mughal tombs in one of Delhi's great parks. By 9am, your vehicle departs for Agra (approximately 3.5 hours by road along the Yamuna Expressway). En route, stop at Sikandra — the tomb of Emperor Akbar, less visited and extraordinarily beautiful. Check in to your Agra hotel, then head directly to the Taj Mahal for the late afternoon and sunset viewing when the marble changes from gold to deep orange. Your guide explains the history, the architecture, and the love story behind the world's greatest monument. Dinner at a rooftop restaurant with Taj Mahal views.

Agra
Taj Mahal at Sunrise → Agra Fort → Itmad-ud-Daulah
The alarm goes off at 5am. This is non-negotiable. You arrive at the Taj Mahal gates before opening, and in those first thirty minutes as the sun rises and the marble moves from grey to pale gold to blinding white with the gardens completely empty around you, you will understand why this building is one of the seven wonders of the world. No photograph can prepare you for this morning. After breakfast, visit the mighty Agra Fort — the Red Fort of Agra, where Shah Jahan spent the last eight years of his life imprisoned by his son, with a view of the Taj Mahal in the distance. Afternoon: Itmad-ud-Daulah (the Baby Taj) — a jewel-box mausoleum that actually predates the Taj and is its architectural predecessor. Walk through the local marble inlay workshops to see artisans creating Agra's signature craft. Optional: Mehtab Bagh at dusk for the classic rear view of the Taj across the Yamuna.

Agra → Fatehpur Sikri → Jaipur
Fatehpur Sikri — The Ghost City → Drive to Jaipur
Breakfast, then depart for Jaipur with a stop at Fatehpur Sikri — one of India's most extraordinary and least-visited UNESCO sites. Built by Emperor Akbar in 1571 as his new capital, abandoned in 1585 because of water shortage, and perfectly preserved ever since: a complete 16th-century Mughal capital frozen in time. The Buland Darwaza (Gate of Victory) is 176 feet high. The Jama Masjid here is enormous. And the whole complex, in the late morning light, is suffused with a quality of silence and completeness that the Red Fort and the Taj cannot match. Continue 4 hours to Jaipur. Check in to your heritage hotel. Evening walk through the Johari Bazaar — Jaipur's jewellery market — and dinner at a rooftop restaurant in the old city.

Jaipur
Amber Fort → City Palace → Hawa Mahal → Jantar Mantar
An early start to beat the crowds at Amber Fort — the former Kachwaha capital perched on a ridge above Maota Lake. Jeep ride up to the fort entrance. Inside: the Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience), the Sheesh Mahal (Hall of Mirrors where a single candle flame becomes a thousand), and the Sukh Niwas (Hall of Pleasure, air-conditioned by water flowing through the walls in 1727). Back in the city: the City Palace complex, where the Maharaja of Jaipur still resides in a section closed to the public. The stunning Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) — five storeys of 953 latticed windows, photographed from the street. Jantar Mantar — the 18th-century open-air astronomical observatory with instruments of startling accuracy. Afternoon: a private cooking class in a local home — dal baati churma, laal maas, and Rajasthani chai. This is the meal you will spend years trying to recreate.

Jaipur
Block Printing Workshop → Bazaar Walk → Optional Day Trip
Morning visit to a block-printing workshop in Sanganer village (30 minutes from Jaipur) — watch craftsmen stamp intricate patterns on cotton with hand-carved wooden blocks using natural dyes, a tradition unchanged for centuries. Return for a guided walk through Jaipur's old city bazaars: Bapu Bazaar for textiles, Johari Bazaar for gemstones, Tripolia Bazaar for brassware. Optional afternoon day trip to Abhaneri — the extraordinary 9th-century step-well (baoli) that descends 20 metres through 3,500 steps in a geometric pattern of breathtaking mathematical precision, located 95km from Jaipur. This is one of the most photographed structures in India and almost always empty of tourists. Evening: farewell dinner at a rooftop restaurant in the old city with Hawa Mahal views.

🌟 TripRoutes India Insider Tips for This Package
  • Arrive in Delhi one day early if possible — a buffer day prevents jet lag from affecting your first full sightseeing day
  • The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays — we ensure your Agra days are never on a Friday
  • Fatehpur Sikri (Day 5) is almost always less crowded in the early morning — we time this stop to arrive by 9am
  • For October–November travel, book at least 4 months ahead — festival season fills hotels quickly
  • The Oberoi Amarvilas upgrade in Agra (where every room has a Taj Mahal view) is worth it for anyone celebrating a special occasion
  • Request a cooking class with a Rajasthani family rather than a hotel demonstration — the food and the experience are completely different
  • We can add Ranthambore National Park (tiger safari) to this itinerary — 3 hours from Jaipur, add 2 nights
