Old Delhi — Jama Masjid, Red Fort & Chandni Chowk
Full day exploring Old Delhi with your private guide. Begin at the Red Fort — Shah Jahan's 17th-century red sandstone citadel — then Jama Masjid, India's largest mosque. Cycle rickshaw through Chandni Chowk bazaar where every lane has its own speciality (booksellers, wedding decorators, spice traders, silver merchants). Visit Raj Ghat — the understated black granite memorial to Mahatma Gandhi — then end at Humayun's Tomb, built in 1565 as the architectural prototype for the Taj Mahal.

Fly to Varanasi — Arrival & First Ganga Aarti
Morning flight from Delhi to Varanasi (approx 1.5 hrs). Check in to your heritage hotel near the ghats. Afternoon walk through Godaulia — the dense, atmospheric lanes of the old city behind the ghats, where silk weavers, flower sellers, and tea shops occupy every available space. At sunset, board a private wooden boat for the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat — seven priests performing a 45-minute fire ritual of extraordinary devotional intensity as hundreds of diyas drift past on the river.

Sunrise Boat Ride → Morning Ghats → Sarnath
Alarm at 4.45am. Private boat ride along the 84 ghats in the pre-dawn darkness and the first light — the definitive Varanasi experience. Watch the city wake up from the water: bathers, priests, sadhus, flower offerings, cremation fires at Manikarnika. Return for breakfast, then afternoon excursion to Sarnath (12km) — the deer park where Gautama Buddha gave his first sermon in 500 BCE after achieving enlightenment at Bodh Gaya. The Dhamek Stupa here dates to the 6th century. The Sarnath Museum holds the original Lion Capital of Ashoka — the emblem of modern India.

Varanasi
Banarasi Silk Weavers → Old City Walk → Evening Boat
Morning visit to a Banarasi silk weaving family's home in the Madanpura district — one of Varanasi's weaving neighbourhoods — where you watch a craftsman work an 18th-century drawloom to produce the heavy, gold-threaded silk that Varanasi has been famous for since the Mughal period. Return for lunch, then an afternoon deep dive into the old city lanes with your guide: the Kashi Vishwanath Temple corridor (the holiest Shiva temple in India, rebuilt and expanded in 2021), the Bengali Tola ghats, and the chai stalls where philosophy students and priests debate theology over small clay cups. Evening boat ride under the stars.

Varanasi Station — Shatabdi Express to Agra
Board the Varanasi Cantt to Agra Cantt Shatabdi Express — approximately 8 hours, but Indian train travel is an experience in itself: chai vendors, tiffin boxes, fellow passengers, the flat Gangetic plains scrolling past the window. Arrive Agra by evening. Check in to your hotel near the Taj Mahal East Gate. Dinner at a rooftop restaurant with Taj Mahal views as the full moon (if the timing is right) rises above the dome.

Taj Mahal Sunrise → Agra Fort → Itmad-ud-Daulah
The 5am alarm again. Non-negotiable. Arrive at the Taj Mahal as the gates open and spend the golden hour in the gardens as the marble progresses through its morning colour sequence. After breakfast, the Agra Fort — where Shah Jahan's son Aurangzeb imprisoned him in a tower with a silver mirror angled to reflect the Taj Mahal, so he could see the tomb of his wife every morning. The story is almost too dramatic to be true. It is true. Afternoon: Itmad-ud-Daulah — the Baby Taj, an exquisite jewel-box mausoleum that predates the Taj Mahal by 17 years.

Fatehpur Sikri → Drive to Jaipur → Onward Departure
